Landing at Wellington airport at around 3:30pm we all bundled into a shuttle bus and got dropped off at our hostel. Luckily we managed to find space at the Base Hostel as we had our prepaid cards so could use them. We dumped all our bags in our room and then went straight out to the Te Papa museum as it shut at 6:00pm. This place was huge, over 6 floors of exhibitions and all free. It was really interesting reading up on the Mauri culture and about how New Zealand became populated by the polynesians and the westerners and all about the treaty. It was also home to the only Giant Squid ever caught alive, which was pretty amazing.
Having got kicked out of the museum at closing time we headed back to the hostel via the supermarket to get some pancake mix, sugar and lemons to celebrate pancake day. A few failed hours and 4 dismal pancakes later we gave up put some noodles on. I blame the poor facilities at the hostel :-) That evening we just chilled out and attempted to get an early night apart from having a couple of party girls ion our room who ket inviting people back to the room to drink and didnt leave til gone midnight.
Waking up with just enough time to shower and grab a bite to eat before jumping on our bus to Taupo to meet up with the Canadians, Mike and Brad.
