Day 163 Wednesday 17th February 2010
Stacey says
This morning we began our trip to Lake Tekapo. This is pretty much a stop to break up the journey to Christchurch. It is also the place which you can head to Mt. Cook from, but we didn't have time to walk up the mountain. We arrived to Lake Tekapo around 4pm. It was a stunning lake, with turquoise blue coloured water. It was a very remote little village, very peaceful place. There was a small church where a lot of people choose to get married because of its beautiful surroundings, with a statue of a collie dog near by for a momento of the loyalty of the dogs in the past to their masters, we were told a few true stories of how the dogs have helped to save their owners when they have been in trouble. Our bus driver today said she would cook us all a massive BBQ feast if enough of us wanted it, so 21 of us signed up. A feast it was, our driver Lisa did a very good job, salad, potatoes, garlic bread, sausages, burgers (beef, chicken, veggie or bubble & sqeak!) sausages, chicken wings - so much food! We tucked in with a few beers over the evening, with lake Tekapo in the background.
