Day 128 Saturday 16th January 2010
Johno says
We arrived into Airlie Beach around 7am with yet another sleepless night on the Greyhound bus, we booked a place at Magnums Hostel which was recommended to us by our newly found Irish friends. It was fairly cheap to upgrade to a private room rather than the usual Australian dorm so we cracked on and had a good few hours sleep until around midday - beautiful. Airlie beach consists of purely of one medium sized road with lots of bars and a few clothes shops, the atmosphere was relaxed but still a massive party one with lots of the bars having outside areas where you could visibly notice the jugs of XXXX or Tooheys New. There was also a lagoon area which looked really appealing with fresh cold swimming areas and trees/grassed areas for shade as it was absolutely boiling throughout the day, so we wondered down to this area for a couple of hours after we had checked in for our sailing trip around the Whitsundays due to commence tomorrow. In the evening, we relaxed and chilled out on an outside bench at Magnums bar and I tucked into my first jug that had been calling my name earlier in the day. Our crazy Irish friends then joined in on the fun, Stace was getting on the vodka and cranberries so I naturally tucked into my second jug and we marched on down to Paddy Shenanigans for a fair few more. The waterfall game did come out to toast our Fraser Island adventure.
