Hello, we arrived in San Francisco on Sunday 29th Nov from Hawaii. This will be our last post and probably a short one as it's nearly time to go home! We arrived in the evening and the view of San Francisco from the plane was amazing- black sky with millions of lights. We're staying at the USA Hostel on Post Street which is probably the nicest hostel we've been in so far. On Monday we just went to the supermarket and exploring the area we're staying in. On Tuesday we walked to Fisherman's Wharf and hired some bikes. We cycled to the Golden Gate Bridge, across the bridge and back. It was quite cloudy and by the time we got to the top by the bridge we couldn't see any of it as the cloud was right over it. We we're knackered by the end of the day, the walk to Fisherman's Wharf was up some of the steepest hills and then the cycle to the bridge was up some nice big hills as well. We got up Wednesday and walked to Westfield shopping centre, and then along to Chinatown and on Thursday we walked to Union Square and went ice skating in the outdoor ice rink that is there for christmas which was really nice. We went on a movie tour bus on Friday which was great, it latest about 3 hours and we we're shown about 70 clips from 60 different films as we went past the places where they were filmed. We saw St Peter and Paul's church where they shot 9 months with Huge Grant and where Marilyn Monroe had her wedding photos taken. We also saw the school in the Princess Diaries and best of all Mrs Doubtfires house!! (One thing i've been really wanting to see in San Fran! We went all around the city and got to see all the areas which was great and we we're able to get off at some places. We stopped at Alamo Square where we saw the 7 Victorian houses in a row, known as the 'Painted Ladies', which have been in loads of films as they have the perfect view behind them of the city. We also saw Lombard Street which is San Francisco's famous crooked road, which we got told was made like that after horses were breaking their legs going down it with their carriages. The tour ended at Fisherman's Wharf and went to a bakery for lunch, we had soup in a bread bow, and the bread was sourdough bread which comes from San Fran. We got a cable car back to Union Square which we read that they go about 11mph. They're really cute, we also read that the cable cars were introduced in 1873 after an accident with a horse and carriage, most of the system was destroyed in the 1906 earthquake and only a few we're restored. On Saturday we just had a wonder about the city to Union Square etc and we went to the cinema and saw Old Dogs, with Robin Williams in who actually lives in San Fran but we didn't see him :(.
Anyway, we've really enjoyed San Francisco, its such a lovely place and defiantly the most hills we've seen in one city. We left the Hawaiian sunshine for a cold San Fran but we've actually loved the cold wintery weather. We land at Heathrow on Monday morning, we can't believe we're coming home but can't wait to see everyone. We've had the trip of a life time, we've got no regrets and have loved every minute exploring amazing places together. As most people known I finished University and Pete finished working at Mill on the Bure before we left for our trip and we're looking forward to coming home and seeing what new adventures and opportunities come our way. Lots of love as always, Claire and Pete x
