Long time no entry!
I left Surfers Paradise and the torrential rain to arrive in Byron Bay...with torrential rain! The first night we sat outside at the hostel and I tasted kangaroo which is fantastic. We went to a club called Cheeky Monkeys which was frankly terrible. The next day we attempted a walk to the beach. Basically got soaked so we retreated to the hostel and watched an awful film but everyone was drinking goon which made it slightly watchable (Paycheck - don't ever watch it). In the evening we went to Cheeky Monkeys to take advantage of the free meal which was actually really nice and all the better for being free. Bumped into Kyle (welsh boy from Surfers).
Sunday was better weather so we headed to the beach and watched people surfing. We then had a barbecue..burgers, sausages and kangaroo! Kyle came round as well so there was about 8 of us. Much goon flowed and at about midnight we all went to the beach which was fun! Especially rock climbing to get there...
On Monday Polly, Kyle and another random guy and me went on the Local Knowledge Tour with a guy called Anthony. He took us to lots of nice spots - waterfalls, look outs, a place called Channon Valley which was beautiful, Nimbin, Lennox Head. It was a brilliant day despite the rain during our rainforest walk and me falling over (quelle surprise). I think the guide thought me and Kyle were a bit mad but nevermind! Will have to give a further update later on as I have run out of internet time...The rest of Byron Bay was generally spent at the beach and was pretty relaxing.
After Byron Bay we headed to Surf Camp on the Oz Experience bus. The weather was terrible, absolutely pouring with rain but that just made it more fun! We had a surf lesson and the waves were huge! Managed to stand up for about half a second although I did perfect kneeling on the surf board. To be honest it was a lot of fun just lying on it! Had a really good group of people at Surf Camp, everyone joined in which made up for the fact our accommodation was 6 people in a porta-cabin.
Been in Sydney since Thursday night so seen the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Aquarium, botanical gardens, Manly beach, Hyde Park, Anzac Memorial. Friday was Anzac day so we watched the parade. I don't know if I'm thinking about NZ already but its been a little bit of an anti-climax so far although tomorrow I will visit the Blue Mountains which is much more my thing really. Plus I am quite ill which doesn't help. Early night tonight as early start and late night tomorrow, my last day in Australia! Can't quite believe I have been here 6 weeks the time has flown. Hopefully NZ will be a little cheaper as Australia is very expensive but I doubt it somehow. I haven't resorted to begging yet but I fear it won't be far off!
