Puerto Iguazu
Monday 11th January
We woke up with a long journey ahead of us. We had to check out of our hostel in Sao Paulo at midday and our coach to Foz do Iguazu was leaving at 6.30pm so we had a lot of time to kill. We had our backpacks so we decided to go to the cinema with them. We went to see the new Sherlock Homes film which was suprisingly really good. We then went to the coach station to board our coach for the 15 hour journey ahead! We arrived at Foz do Iguazu (Brazil) at about 9am with very little sleep. We then found out we had to get a local bus to the centre of town and then catch another bus to take us over the boarder to Puerto Iguazu (Argentina). We had to get off the bus twice at boarder control and the bus didnt wait for us so we had to then wait for the next one. It was a long morning but we got our Argentinian stamps and were on our way!! We arrived at our hostel Che Legarto about midday howeevr we were told we couldnt get into our room until 2pm AND the clocks had gone back an hour because of the time difference so we had 3 hours to kill, but we could leave our backpacks safe in the hostel luggage room so we went out in our zombie state to explore the town. The town of Puerto Igauzu was very little but very nice most people who want to visit the Iguazu falls on the Argentinian side stayed here so it was very touristy. We quickly found out that Argentina is a lot cheaper than Brazil and you get a lot more pesos than real for your money! Our hostel is nice its got a really nice common area with a pool table and even a pool outside. The weather wasnt too good when we arrived though.
On Wednesday we headed to the falls. Its the most spectacular thing wev ever seen and I think w have to say its another one to go in the top 10!!! As you can see from the pictures its amazing. The park you enter to access the falls has lots of excersions on offer we worked out that a speed boat trip under the falls was about 16 pound each so we went for that!!! But first we walked along the different trails to different view points of the falls. The most spectacular was the devils throat where your practically floating on top of the falls the force of the water is so strong the after spray soaks you. The view is breath taking. We also hiked along the upeer trail and the lower trail giving you different angles of the falls. We finished our trip with our speed boat ride. It was a long hike down to the waters edge but it was totally worth it. You climb onto the speed boat with your life jacket and the take you on a ride around the bottome of the falls stopping for photos and then screaming at you to put your cameras away they then take you right under the falls!! It was amazing we were soaking wet but the sun was shining and the trail back was really long so we soon dried off. That was a good day!!
Our last day in Iguazu was spent sunbathing by the pool soaking up the rays. We finished our trip off with a trip to a really nice restaurant our favourite so far. Mark ordered the famous Argentinian steak which was mouth watering it came and he had 3 steaks on his plate, I ordered chicken risotto which was really good too but I helped Mark along with his steak!! We also shared 2 wine bottle sized bottles of Bud all in all it worked out at about 16 pound for the lot!! Bargain!! Puerto Iguazu is one of our favourite places the falls are a must see!!! Now where heading to Buenos Aires after a 17 hour journey!!
