Lake Titicaca
Copacabana / Bolivia
Travelling by bus from La Paz we reached Lake Titicaca after a few short hours. Lake Titicaca sits on the Bolivian/Peruvian boarder and can be seen from both sides which is exactly what we did. We stayed in Copacabana on the Bolivian side for 2 nights. The journey there was eventful as we had to get off our bus to cross part of the lake as you can see from the photos! We hopped on one boat and our bus drove onto another, god knows how!!
Copacabana is nestled between 2 hills on the lake. The view from the lake front is amazing and the view we had from our hostel was the same, we managed to catch a perfect sunset. Although that was the only good thing about our hostel. It was the worse one we have stayed in so far. The rooms were like something out of Adams family we were so scared to pull the covers back on the bed. The showers had electrical wires hanging from them and the plug socket managed to melt our plug and burnt my hand when I pulled the plug out. We tried to tell the manager but he just about laughed in our face. We were not impressed with the hostel.
However Lake Titicaca did impress us. We took an early morning boat trip out to Isla del sol to both the south and north part of the Island, once the sun came out the landscape was amazing. The boat ride back was very rocky as a storm was brewing in the distance, we reached the shore just before it hit. Our last night in Copacabana we went for a meal to try the local dish, trout fresh from the Lake! Well I ordered it and Mark tried it. I ordered the chefs special which was trout stuffed with asparagas, onions and carrots in a creamy white wine sauce, it was really good Mark tried the beef in tomato chunk sauce which he wolfed down!
Puno / Peru
On Wednesday morning we jumped on yet another bus to take us across the boarder to Peru. We stayed in a place called Puno at the other side of the lake. We loved Puno. The 2 days that we were there we found ourselves in the middle of a fiesta, the atmosphere for the entire place was carnival like.We had plenty of time to explore the beautiful town and take in the landscape surrounding the lake. Our hostel was amazing with very friendly staff. We had 2 delicious and very cheap meals including duck risotto and a really nice chinese meal which even Mark enjoyed! The weather was sometimes cold but the sun shone making it an even better experience. So far we have loved peru and now we're heading to Cusco!
Speak to you soon love Leanne and Mark xxx
PS Happy Valentines Day everyone!!
