Hello everybody!
We have been in Australia for the past week now, exploring Melbourne and The Great Ocean Road before making our way to New Zealand. We decided to stop off in Melbourne on our way from Bangkok to visit Marks auntie and cousins in Geelong, Victoria. We settled in and Mark started trying to get his head around Auzzie Rules by watching a game with his cousin.
Our first trip out was a steady drive along the Great Ocean Road, which is spectacular! We jumped out of the car to have our photos taken on the famous road and to enjoy the ocean views and to grab some fish and chips and an ice cream, before making our way to visit the twelve apostles. The journey turned out to be a lot further than Marks Auntie remembered but we eventually arrived and it was worth the trip, it was breathtaking. The apostles stand in the ocean away from the cliffs. The photos dont do it justice I dont think.
The following day we headed to Melbourne centre with Marks cousin Mel as our tour guide. She showed us around the cobbled side streets, the famous Flinders street station with the clock faces from around the world, Federation Square and the Realto and Eurica towers. We stumbled across a Nandos restaurant, something we havent seen for months and months so we grabbed some peri peri chicken and took a stroll along the riverbank.
Marks family also took us to see the famous surfing beaches of Torquay and Bells beach. Even though it is winter the auzzies were still catching the waves. We`d chosen to visit Melbourne in the winter season and it was a lot colder than I thought it would be, however I was shocked to realise it was still pretty good weather, similar to an English summer actually!!
We cooked up Yorkshire puddings for the auzzies and ate them with a good old Sunday roast and even managed a girls night out to see Sex and the city 2!!
We love Australia already and cant wait to do some more exploring next year!
