Right so we decided to stop at a few towns on the way down that were like the real australia and not really visited by backpackers so we could get a feel of wot real oz towns were like, we thought it would be a bit different and a bit of a laugh! Mackay our first stop on the way down from airlie did not dissapoint, it was a sunday and this place was a ghost town, we found our hostel and headed out for a look around, now at first it was a bit of a giggle looking at all the shut strange little shops and 200 year old trucks lying around, after a while though it was a bit scary there was something very backward about this place, the people who lived here looked a bit funny too like there had been generations of inbreeding going on and there was also church after church after church which maybe explained why sundays there wasnt a soul around they were all obviously in church or in bed with there cousin or something? we made the best of it though and decided the next days to get on our heels and get out of there before we got eaten or sacrificed or something! Mackay wot a place, definately a bit of an eye opener!
