Melbourne, New South Wales

Hi everyone

hope you are all ok and are enjoying the snow! sat in federation square yesterday. i saw a clip of someone slipping on his way to work on the icy roads (dont think it was england)and it reminded me of the fun february we had last year!

have been in melbourne the last few days and i love it! i had heard a lot of mixed opinions with some people loving it and others saying there is no point in going but i am glad i checked it out myself. Theres been a heatwave with temps up to 38 degrees - its going to be 41 on monday (so glad i wont be here then!). One of the highlights has to be the trip to ramsay street - it had to be done!! we watched old episodes on the bus and met a former star of the show.. i (along with most of the others - all brits!) didnt recognise him when he got on the bus, but he told us he played dylan - toadies cousin. was really hoping to meet someone more exciting like paul robinson but i guess these ex soap actors need the money more than the current actors! having been to summer bay a few days before i was starting to lose all grips on reality!!

the city museum was v informative, glad i managed to fit it in. its where they used to keep the gold! they are shutting the museum down in a couple of months which is a shame.. hopefully the fight to keep it open is a success!

i love the fact that they have free tourist buses and trams here! has made seeing everything in this heat a lot easier! the melbourne gaol (where ned kelly was hanged) was a lot of fun - v interactive. as well as looking around the museum, we acted out ned kellys trial (i gave evidence against him) and we were locked in a prison holding cell!

melbournes basically got it all - lovely cafes, restaurants and bars, so many museums there wasnt time to go to them all, galleries, a beach, lots of parks and gardens and ramsay street! i wouldnt be able to pick between sydney and melbourne - i love them both!

we start our trip up the east coast on monday with our bus leaving at 6.30am!! along with surfing and diving one of our stops will be a weed museum.. should be an interesting trip! xx
