We said it was going to be a long trip and it was, all told 15 hours only 45 mins of that was the ferry crossing! When we arrived there we realised there was only 2 caravan parks on the whole of the Island and none near the Port! We drove round for a while looking for a decent camp spot until it was getting too dark to drive as the roads are full of kangaroos and didnt want to run them over! We settled for a council woodland next to a beachfront where you had to put $15 in an envelope and put it in a box. As we didnt have any cash we hoped for the best and tried to get some rest after a bite to eat! We got up early the next morning to get off the campsite before we got found by any rangers!! We went to the Island Beehive for free tasters of 6 different honeys, some so good that we bought a jar!! Saw a working beehive and then off to the eucalyptus farm. This in itself wasnt that impressive but there was an orphaned kangaroo in a basket there dozing!!! It was the cutest thing ever and we have decided we want one as a pet!!! Got some pics stroking the baby 'roo'. We eventually got to one of the powered campsites and the woman there told us if we didnt want to pay to get in the parks then there was one not too far away that would now be closed and they didnt have any gates so you should be able to drive straight in, so thats exactly what we did!!! There we saw the lighthouse, seals at the breeding ground which is a harsher environment than Donner Knook as its all on rocks!! That evening we went on a Koala walk through the campsites woodland, we found 4 koalas, got some video footage of them eating and nearly falling out of the trees!! and we were surrounded by dozens of kangaroos from babies to adults!!! All in all the Island is a beautiful place, but the Kangaroos and Koalas were what really made the trip amazing!! PS. Norman went to the beach and had a massive smile on his face feeling so at home!!!!!
